Donating Blood to Honor her Father’s Life

By Michelle Tanner, volunteer contributor, American Red Cross North Texas

Isleen Rodriguez started donating blood around the time her father passed away.

After he died from cancer at a young age, she remembered his kindness and generosity. When Isleen’s company held a Red Cross blood drive, she participated in honor of her father.

“Father’s legacy was teaching us to help others how we can,” she said.

Every time she donates blood, Isleen, who has donated for 14 years, thinks about her father and who may be benefitting from her donation.

“Blood is precious. I can be helping someone else’s dad or grandfather,” Isleen said. “It’s about a human being helping another human being.”

Isleen, who donates blood about once a year, uses the Red Cross donor app (available in the Apple or Google Play store) to remind her when she is eligible to donate.

“It also motivates me to stay healthy, to eat healthy and to stay active so I can give healthy blood,” Isleen added.

If you would like to donate blood, schedule an appointment at RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-Red-Cross.
