Let’s Sound the Alarm

Penny Black, volunteer contributor, American Red Cross North Texas

Did you know that you only have two minutes to escape a home fire? That’s why the American Red Cross helps families prepare to act quickly with the Home Fire Campaign.

Home fires haven’t stopped during COVID-19. Through targeted outreach, we’re working with community partners to connect with families and educate kids online about fire safety. Our Sound the Alarm campaign has helped save nearly 1,000 lives across the country over the past six years.

When the worst happens, we’re there, too. After a home fire, Red Cross volunteers work with fire departments to connect virtually with families for emergency lodging, immediate assistance, and emotional support, etc.

Recently, the American Red Cross of North Texas provided assistance, including accommodations, to residents of Forest Cove Apartments after a five-alarm fire destroyed 52 apartments.

Resident Maraibe Ugoji said, “It was a true blessing working with the Red Cross. It was a very good experience and I am thankful for the assistance.”

Take the Pledge to Prepare and help your family be prepared for a home fire.

To help the Red Cross continue this amazing work, donate or sign-up to become a Disaster Action Team volunteer.

You can be the face of hope to families that have lost everything.

Special thanks to Toyota Industries Commercial Finance for their generosity. Their contribution for Sound the Alarm, helps Red Cross North Texas region make homes safer through fire safety education.
