Red Cross Ends Distribution of Supplies in Tornado Damaged Areas

This message from Anita Foster, Public Information Officer, American Red Cross:

At sundown tonight, the American Red Cross will end supply distribution in the tornado damaged areas. Since the storms hit, Red Cross teams have handed out more than 22,000 items such as shovels, rakes, tarps, work gloves, trash bags and other things necessary to complete the salvaging process. Today, most homeowners and residents have recovered the items that they could and are no longer in need of these supplies.

Because the distribution of supplies is ending doesn’t mean the Red Cross is leaving the communities impacted by the tornadoes. A shelter remains open at Gale Field Recreation Center in Garland where 17 people spent the night last night. Additionally, caseworkers, disaster mental health, nursing and feeding teams are actively working each day to support tornado victims. Anyone who has been affected by the storms is urged to speak with a Red Cross caseworker as soon as possible.
