Red Cross Preps for Flooding Across State

This message from Anita Foster, PIO, American Red Cross:

With dangerous weather events shaping up across the state, the American Red Cross is taking several actions to support Texans in advance of flooding and flash flooding.

ACTIVE NOW:

  • The Red Cross Digital Operations Center (digiDOC) is operational in Dallas. This social media listening center is helping the Red Cross follow the weather and provide real-time safety information to Texans across the entire state. The digiDOC is located at the American Red Cross, 4800 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas.
  • The Red Cross is urging all Texans to download the free Red Cross Emergency App from itunes or Google Play. This app will provide critical information about flooding, along with tips on how to stay safe before, during and after storms.
  • Safety tips are available at http://www.redcross.org/images/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m4340128_Flood.pdf

STANDING BY:

  • Red Cross shelter workers and damage assessment crews are standing by in the event that flood waters create damage around the state. If families are displaced, they will be directed to an open shelter near them.
  • Red Cross relief teams are still available to support families because of home fires; however, their response times will be determined by the weather elements. If delayed, a family will be assisted remotely until a Red Cross worker can safely meet with the family.

INFO AVAILABLE:

The Red Cross is currently tweeting safety tips @RedCrossDFW. If needed, digital volunteers will also provide information on important services such as shelter locations, where to pick up supplies and more from the feed. North Texans are urged to follow @RedCrossDFW for the latest response information.
